Studytube chooses OPP for processing payments for 8,000 educators and 500,000 employees
Companies that buy training through Studytube get one invoice summary a month instead of an invoice from every trainer. When they pay, OPP’s multi-split payments pay each trainer and Studytube’s fee automatically.

Studytube was founded in 2010. Hundreds of organisations and more than 500,000 employees use it for courses and training from some 8,000 providers, including external providers such as ICM and NCOI. Companies manage training, approvals and budgets in Studytube’s portal, and they expect to handle payments there too.
“Our goal is to enable companies to harness the potential of every employee. By building a user-friendly learning environment with attractive offerings, we make people’s development simpler and more accessible.”
Sebastiaan Menheere, COO of Studytube
The partnership: B2B payments a learning platform does not have to run itself
Studytube sits between the companies that buy training and the trainers who deliver it. Handling the money between them itself would have made Studytube a payment service provider, a role that, with PSD2 in force, it did not want to take on.
So OPP took on that role. OPP and Studytube partnered to automate the payments between companies and trainers on the platform. With OPP’s multi-split payments, a company receives one invoice summary a month instead of a hundred separate invoices. OPP collects the company’s payment and splits it between the trainers and Studytube’s commission, so everyone is paid automatically.
The challenge: few providers focus on B2B, and none on splitting
Studytube’s payment flows are business to business: hundreds of companies paying thousands of training providers through one platform. Most payment service providers are built for consumers paying a webshop, not for companies paying many suppliers at once.
“Due to the strict requirements imposed by the PSD2 legislation, it was undesirable to take on the role of payment service provider ourselves. Therefore, we decided to partner with an external organisation. However, we discovered that few payment service providers focus entirely on B2B payments. Because this focus was missing, almost none of the major parties could meet our requirements.”

Companies typically buy courses from several providers at once. Studytube did not want them checking an invoice per training, and it wanted to deduct its own fee from each payment without manual work.
Our solution: one invoice summary, many payouts
For OPP, splitting a client’s payment into the trainer’s portion and the platform’s commission is everyday practice. Companies now receive an overview of all transactions each month, one invoice summary instead of 100 invoices from different trainers. When the company pays it, OPP’s multi-split pays the various trainers and pays Studytube its fee. Payments from trainers to Studytube run automatically through OPP as well.
“When formulating these requirements we immediately noticed that for Online Payment Platform, as a specialist in platform payments, this is everyday practice. They offer multi-split payments that automatically split the client’s payment to Studytube into the trainer’s portion and our commission.”

The impact: convenience for companies, and a payment flow that keeps working
Companies that train their staff through Studytube now deal with one invoice summary a month and pay it in one go. Trainers receive their share automatically, and Studytube’s fee is deducted without anyone at Studytube touching it. The set-up has stayed in use as the platform has grown.
“The partnership with OPP is very good. What I especially appreciate in our partnership is the personal contact and attention. This enabled us to set up our payment solution very efficiently, and we are still using it successfully. Their specialism in platforms and marketplaces has proved valuable to us, as they know very well what we need.”

Studytube has a team in Germany and activities in other European countries, and OPP supports platforms beyond the Netherlands too, so the two companies’ international ambitions line up.
What this means for you: why B2B platforms need split payments
If you run a platform where one customer buys from many suppliers, Studytube’s requirement is a common one: a single invoice for the buyer, an automatic payout for every supplier, and your own fee deducted along the way, without becoming a payment institution yourself.
That is what multi-split payments are for, and it is where OPP started.

Frequently asked questions
Can a B2B platform bill companies once and pay many suppliers automatically?
Yes. Companies that buy training through Studytube receive one invoice summary a month instead of an invoice per trainer. When a company pays, OPP splits the payment and pays each trainer their share and Studytube its fee.
Does a platform need a licence to handle payments between its customers and suppliers?
Collecting money on behalf of suppliers and passing it on is a payment service under PSD2. Studytube did not want to take on that role, so OPP, a licensed payment service provider, handles the payments instead.
Why are B2B platform payments harder to find a provider for?
Most payment service providers focus on consumers paying webshops. Studytube found that almost none of the large parties met its B2B requirements: many suppliers per customer, one invoice, and a platform fee on every payment. For OPP, splitting a payment between suppliers and a platform’s commission is everyday practice.
Can payments from suppliers to the platform be automated as well?
Yes. On Studytube, payments from trainers to Studytube also run automatically through OPP.
